Back up and running

Well, the computer now appears to be sorted - for now at least, so I can read normal size email text instead of super magnified. Also means I might be able to get back up to date with all those blogs I've not read over the last few days.

Computer gebrochen

Alas I have been relegated to using "Safe Mode" to type this. Every time I log in using normal mode the computer restarts :-(. I can temporarily fix it, but it always breaks again, so may end up downloading & installing vista after all - at least until I find the CD for XP.

Why Upgrade

Those plugging Mac OS X, Windows Vista and now even some add-ons for Linux would have you believe that there is a new era of computing dawning that we had better keep up with. They even provide us with funky looking demo videos. Still, all of this just leaves me wondering, "what's the point?", and you know, I really can't think of one.

Strange Dream

Had a rather odd dream last night...

I was driving back from somewhere down south with at least two passengers (people from church I think - can only remember 1 of them for sure, but have some vague sense of who the others might be - don't think it's important though - just people I'd seen that day). Driving back, we get to a road junction and make a turning, only to find that we are in something like a Euro-tunnel station. It is like we're coming off the train, even though we've not been on one. Also, we are definitely too far north for this by miles, much nearer the midlands.

Next, we are on foot in the building, and they want to charge us the toll for having been on the train through the Euro-tunnel. We keep telling them that we've not been through it, so we shouldn't be paying, but they insist. We refuse and then we try to get out of a door by pushing, but we can't. Then for some reason, one we've not been pushing opens for us to easily walk through, so we go through that to the next bit.

However, on the other side there is already a police officer, as this next area is immigration. As we've only been in the UK, we don't have passports. We explain this, and point out the photo id we do have on our driving licences that at least shows we are from the UK, but he's having none of it. He says he's going to have to destroy the driving licences. At this point, I say I want some normal police (ie. not immigration), and tell them that if they examine the CCTV cameras around the roads they'll find the proof that we can from the nearby roads, and not from the tunnel. I also tell them they should sort out the roads so it doesn't happen to anyone else, and let us go on our way.

I wake up before I find out what happens next. I'd like to hope that the police turned up and sorted things out, but I'll never know. Then again, I doubt it's particularly important. Just weird what happens in the dreams you remember.
