Art & Politics
There was an interesting South Bank Show tonight, talking with Mark Wallinger about his work. Not content to just paint pretty pictures, there are many political and religious commentaries in his recent work, tackling issues of free speech, blind faith and many more.
Of particular interest was his recreation of Brian Haw's Parliament Square protest, "State Britain". It is good to see art that strikes out and makes a point: an art that serves its people, not through entertainment, but by amplifying the voice of its people.
